More About Me

I spent most of my life in my hometown of Reno, Nevada and I never appreciated what it had to offer until I moved to the Los Angeles area for graduate school. Nevada is home to some of the most wonderful outdoor space our great country has to offer.  Granted, Nevada is a dry, hot desert, but if you know where to go, you'll find breathtaking beauty and interesting history. I try to get back a few times a year, mostly to go camping with my family where we play with our off-road toys and landsailers.

I moved to the Los Angeles area during the last few days of 2010, just one week before starting the Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine (MTOM) program at Emperor's College in Santa Monica. I have been barreling hard through the program and will graduate in December of 2014.  The material is challenging and always keeps me eager to learn more. My studies are divided into four basic sections: Oriental Medicine, Western Medicine, Herbology, and Acupuncture.

I have really enjoyed living in the LA area. For nearly two years I lived in Redondo Beach about 20 miles south of Santa Monica.  Redondo Beach is a beautiful community and I was fortunate enough to live across the street from the beach. While I lived there I spent many hours running on the beach, studying on the beach, riding my bike on the beach, you name it, I was at the beach. At the end of 2012, I gave up my beach life to pursue my next adventure: moving into a house with the man I love. He bought a home in the suburban area called the Inland Empire near the town of Rancho Cucamonga. Life in the 'burbs is very different from life at the beach, but I get the best of both worlds spending half my time in Santa Monica and half my time at our beautiful home in suburban-land.

School takes up the majority of my life. I'm either in class, treating patients in the clinic or studying for exams. I also work part-time for a great wellness center in Santa Monica where I gain invaluable knowledge about how to run a successful acupuncture practice. In my spare time I like to be active. I do indoor cycling as much as I can and I even like to do two spins per day on the weekends. I'm so addicted to spinning that I recently became a certified spinning instructor and am now guiding people to their fitness goals at Body Rituals in Upland, CA. I also like to ride my beach cruiser through the Inland Empire and run. I've been a long distance runner for over six years, having completed two full marathons (26.2 miles), five (maybe six) half marathons (13.1 miles) and three Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relays (combined 178 miles). I also love food! I love to cook and find new recipes. I'm always excited when I cook a vegan meal for my omnivore boyfriend and he tells me to "keep that recipe on the list."
